My Lord,
Detention of a Schooner called the Spec, protected by a sailing Letter from this Colony, by Commander Pitman of Her Majesty's Ship "Childers"; the Master and Crew of the Schooner being charged with murder and piracy alleged to have been committed on board a Chinese Fishing Boat off the Rugged Islands, which lie in the vicinity of the mouth of the Ningpo River.
I have the honour to submit for your Lordship's information the Copy of a Despatch from Meloncul Alcock relative to the seizure and detention of a Victoria, Houghton, October 17th, 1848.
I also annex a printed copy of the evidence taken in the case before Mr. Consul Alcock at Shaughae, and before J. Stillier.
